Kinda tangential, but, as a doctor, I've gotten lots of questions about the Hippocratic Oath and violations thereof (not by me, I add with haste). I point out, first, that it has no legal standing; second, that it's not universally administered anymore; third, that when it is, it's highly modified from the original, which demanded fealty to Apollo and a couple of other gods, a promise to teach the children of one's teachers for free, and a few other arcane things.
Taking an oath, in any case, is meaningless. If, absent an oath, you'd do harm (primum non nocere isn't part of the H. O, btw), the oath won't change it, any more than pledging to tell the truth at Senate confirmation hearings kept Patel, Bondi, Hegseth, and Gabbard from lying with abandon.
Just sayin'.
